Español I Semester block
Prerequisite: A or B in English

In a level I, the student is introduced to listening, speaking, reading and writing of the target language. Through the use of communicative and cooperative approaches, technology and authentic materials, the students become familiar with not only the language, but also the culture, customs and current events of the people.
Español II Semester block
Prerequisite: Level I with B or better

In level two the emphasis is on reviewing and expanding the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills of the student. Technology and authentic materials continue to
increase awareness of the target language culture(s) and current events.
Español III Semester block
Prerequisite: Level II with B or better
1 credit
In level three the students will continue to review and expand listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. New structures are introduced, but the foundations of grammar are reviewed. Technology and authentic materials continue to enhance cultural awareness and current events.
Español IV Year long period
Prerequisite: Level III with B or better
1 credit
In level four the focus is on the application of upper level grammar and conversation and the continuous study of culture, music, history, and literature. The students will continue to review, expand, and improve proficiency in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Some of the material is covered via reading, lectures, research, cooperative learning activities and/or projects, and technology. Most of the class work is conducted in the target language.
